I can tell Mark Minasi didn't write this.I'm building an 2016 Domain and I've used my Mastering Windows Server 2012R2 book more then this one. This is not a book to find answers. It seems like an edition to Mastering Windows Server 2012R2. SO Mark if your still out there help them out! I've been a fan of the Mastering Windows series since Server 2003 and have recommended the Mastering series to my fellow IT guys. Not this one... it failed!
This was one of my course book for a masters. The content is very thorough.
I like this book. It covers the essentials that server administrators need, giving them a foundation that is solid enough to be effective immediately, without going too deep. I was worried when I read a criticism that this book is less than 600 pages. Certainly, some books easily break the 1000 page mark. They are more like deep dive books, which I may delve into when I need more detail if I can’t find what I want to know on the Internet. But on a daily basis, I want a book that covers the bases, gets to the heart of the matter, and doesn’t require me to be a weight lifter. I want something I can easily reach for and tell me what I want to know 80-90% of the time.The writing is clear, not pedantic or wordy. The author makes use of screenshots, diagrams, and lists (bulleted and enumerated). Where applicable, ideas are compartmentalized in blocked paragraphs. That means that information is very often arranged so that the central concepts are more easily remembered. This book stays near at hand on my desk.
If you're an administrator who wants to teach themselves about Server 2016 before you upgrade your organization, or a student going for certification, this is a great book. It goes into the level of detail that an expert user needs, and it covers every topic I can think of!
The previous edition was over 1600 pages. There is no way anyone can master anything with 600 pages.
